Bangkok, May, 30 2022 – Thaipat Institute today reveals set of securities with promising performance in terms of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) as 2022 ESG Emerging list, firm also supports setting up of private fund targeting high net worth investors who seek an alternative for sustainable investment.
Thaipat Institute, by its ESG Rating unit, the pioneer in the development of Thailand’s corporate sustainability database and the annual ESG100 list since 2015, has compiled the 2022 ESG Emerging list to recognize promising ESG performers on the Thai stock market. For the list, the institute has reviewed 851 companies/funds/investment trusts using ESG information from over 15,760 publicly available data points from six data sources1.
Dr.Pipat Yodprudtikan, chairman of Thaipat Institute, says, “To compile ESG Emerging list for the third time this year, we used ESG data publicly available in the company disclosure, its performance on ESG issues, and significant initiatives or business aspects linked to ESG factors which reflect in revenue growth or cost saving within the assessment period”.
This year, firm introduces ESG-focused investment via Thaipat ESG Emerging Private Fund which its constituents selected from ESG Emerging universe according to Thaipat’s ESG criteria.
The constituents from ESG Emerging universe (2020-2022) used in calculation of the investment unit price for the year 2022 consists of 36 securities: 2S AIMRT AKP AP ASIAN AYUD BOL CKP ETC HL III IP LEO PAP PHOL PJW RBF RCL SA SCGP SEAOIL SELIC SFLEX SKR SMD SONIC SSP STARK STGT STI TNP TPIPL TVI UTP WICE YGG.2
Thaipat ESG Emerging Private Fund focuses on qualified small- and mid-cap securities based on its ESG criteria. The fund adopted passive investing strategy relying on larger price range movement than large-cap stocks, and rebalancing strategy in every 3 months in building up opportunities for gaining high returns against benchmarking index.
The fund managed by Land and Houses Fund Management Co., Ltd. (LH Fund). According to the Back-testing data, the total return of ESG Emerging constituents from 30 June 2020 to 23 May 2022 is 43.3%, comparing to 28.7% of the SET TRI return.
Thaipat Institute, by its ESG Rating unit, has also compiled the ESG100 list of the top 100 ESG performing publicly listed companies in Thai stock market (both SET and mai markets), being the universe for calculating Thaipat ESG Index as a “Benchmark Index”, and also serve as an “Investable Index” for a variety of ESG-themed investment products provided by asset management companies.
